SEEKERS > Autralian School-based Apprenticeships
Many schools now offer the option for students to start a Australian
Apprenticeship while at school. Contact your school careers adviser
or a Australian Apprenticeships Centre in your region to find out
if this is possible in your area.
Australian School-based Apprenticeships enable you to gain a national
vocational qualification while continuing school studies.
They have
a number of features including:
- attendance at school and work
- a training agreement, which links
to an industrial award or agreement, signed by the employer and
you, as a Australian Apprentice
- attainment of a senior secondary
certificate and a vocational education and training (VET) qualification
- you earn a wage for the time spent in productive work
- School
principals, careers advisers and teachers can assist you in planning
for a Australian Apprenticeship by helping
you to select
the most appropriate subjects.
For a list of available options by State/Territory
see the National
Training Information Service website.
